Rated PG-13 Sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence throughout, and brief language
When legions of monstrous alien creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a deadly war began. To combat them, humans devised massive robots called Jaegers as weapons. Controlled simultaneously by two pilots, even the Jaegers proved nearly defenseless against the Kaiju. Now on the verge of defeat, mankind must turn to a washed-up former pilot and an untested trainee teamed in a seemingly obsolete Jaeger. These unlikely heroes are the last hope against a mounting apocalypse.
This was quite good. Decently paced and well made. Doesn't deliver much in the romance department, but hey, I think this was a movie mostly meant for guys anyway. I only wish it had more of a backstory to it, but it seemed to be one of those movies that's mainly just in-your-face action. Pretty good, though.
Consensus: Armed with amazing visual effects, Pacific Rim delivers edge-of-your-seat action. Definitely one for the guys, but some girls may like it as well. Could have had a little more personal aspects with the main characters and some backstory with them. I'll give it a 4.5 out of 5.

The Lego Movie!
Rated PG for action and rude humor
This was one of the best animated movies I've ever seen, turning out to be way better than I had originally thought it would be! Super funny, and it even has Batman! A great film that the whole family is sure to enjoy, and has a really good message interwoven.
Consensus: Done in awesome animation, The Lego Movie is a hilariously chaotic blend of everything LEGO and has laugh-out-loud humor. A super fun movie that kids and adults alike are sure to love.

The Hobbit ~ An Unexpected Journey
Okay, so, I realize that I never actually put out a review for this one. I know that most people, by now, have seen this and know what it's about, but nonetheless, here's my (late) review.
Rated PG-13 Extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, and frightening images
The first in a trilogy of films based on the enduring masterpiece The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who--along with the wizard Gandalf and 13 Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield--is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome Dragon Smaug. Their journey will take them into the Wild, through treacherous lands inhabited by Goblins, Orcs and deadly Wargs, as well as a mysterious and sinister figure known only as the Necromancer. Along the path, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise himself, he also gains possession of a "precious" ring tied to the fate of all Middle-Earth in ways he cannot begin to imagine.
Well, needless to say, as I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it's no surprise that I loved this. I had read the book beforehand, and loved it. A true classic, and it was done amazingly well as a film. Full of adventure and a few laughs along the way, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is sure to entertain. Not recommended for younger viewers, as it does contain frightening images.
Consensus: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is everything that any Lord of the Rings fan will love. It has the unmistakable feel of the other films, stays true to the story and has amazing visual effects and a masterpiece of a score.

Review for Burning Sky
Burning Sky ~A novel of the American Frontier by Lori Benton
I remember the borders of our land, though I have been gone from them nearly half the moons of my life. But who there will remember me? What I have seen, what I have done, it has changed me.
Abducted by Mohawk Indians at fourteen and renamed Burning Sky, Willa Obenchain is driven to return to her family's New York frontier homestead after many years building a life with the People. At the boundary of her father's property, Willa discovers a wounded Scotsman lying in her path and she feels obliged to nurse his injuries. The two quickly find much has changed during her twelve-year absence--her childhood home is in disrepair, her missing parents are rumored to be Tories, and the young Richard Waring she once admired is now grown into a man twisted by the horrors of war and claiming ownership of the Obenchain land. When her Mohawk brother arrives and questions her place in the white world, the cultural divide blurs Willa's vision. Can she follow Tames-His-Horse back to the People now that she is no longer Burning Sky? And what about Neil MacGregor, the kind and loyal botanist who does not fit into her plan for a solitary life, yet is now helping her revive her farm? In the aftermath of the Revolutionary War, strong feelings against "savages" abound in the nearby village of Shiloh, leaving Willa's safety unsure. Willa is a woman caught between two worlds. As tensions rise, challenging her shielded heart, the woman called Burning Sky must find a new courage--the courage to again risk embracing the blessings the Almighty wants to bestow. As I only got through part of chapter eight, I cannot give a full account of this book. I found it interesting, however, it was a bit slow as the writer's style is a bit different than that of which I'm used to reading. It was well written though I have to say. I am sure that it gets even better the more that you read on.

Review for Thor: The Dark World
Here is a review. A bit overdue, but here nonetheless!
Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi action and violence, language and some suggestive content
When Thor is faced with an enemy that seems undefeatable, he sets out on a quest--his most perilous and personal one yet. One that will bring him to Jane Foster and one that will force him to sacrifice everything to save mankind.
Despite what most people say, I loved this movie! I thought that it was very intense, was well done and had tons of humor. I thought the visual effects were amazing and liked all of the twists and turns. This one made me like Loki even more than in The Avengers, as before when I first was introduced to him in Thor, I didn't like him very well. That changes in Thor 2. The humorous scenes between him and Thor were absolutely hilarious!
Consensus: Thor 2 kept my attention from beginning to end. The visual effects are breathtaking, transporting you in between multiple worlds. Not short on humor, sure to make you laugh way more than once.

Review for The Croods
Here is a review for a movie that I loved!
Rated PG for some scary action
Nicholas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds lead the voice cast.
The Croods tells the story of the world's first family road trip. When their cave is destroyed, the Crood family must embark on a comedy adventure into strange and spectacular territory in search of a new home. As if patriarch Grug (Cage) didn't already have enough to handle, it goes from bad to worse when they encounter an imaginative nomad named Guy (Reynolds.) With Guy's help the Croods conquer their fear of the outside world and discover that they have exactly what it takes to survive - each other.
This movie I have to say, is hands down, one of my new most favorite movies! I didn't expect to actually laugh as hard as I did! (I usually don't laugh too hard at animated movies unless they're really funny.) The Crood family was hilarious and it was a cool adventure story. Very touching at the end.
Consensus: The Croods is a colorful, fun movie the family can have fun watching. Filled with adventure and plenty of laughs to go around, it is sure to entertain the young and young at heart.

Review for Monsters University (2013)
Here is another review!

This movie goes back in time, before Mike and Sulley were best friends. It shows how they go from hating each one another, to overcoming their differences and becoming the best of friends.
I have to admit I liked this movie a lot better than I thought I would. It's a good family movie, and it's funny. It was cool to see Mike and Sulley meet for the first time, and how they were before they got their jobs as "scarers."
Consensus: Monsters U is a fun movie that the whole family can enjoy. It shows that you can accomplish your dreams if you work hard enough, and even more so when you have friends there beside you.
